Secret Of Life has Rosemary option

Secret Of Life could bid to get back on the winning trail in the Betway British EBF Rosemary Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.
Having won each of her first three starts, Ralph Beckett’s filly surrendered her unbeaten record in the Group Three Atalanta Stakes at Sandown last month but was far from disgraced in finishing a close-up fourth.
The daughter of Pinatubo has the option of stepping up to Group One level for the Sun Chariot on Saturday week, but she could instead return to Listed company on day two of the Cambridgeshire meeting.
David Hilton, stud and racing manager for owner John Deer’s Oakgrove Stud, said: “We’re going to speak about it and make a decision on that. She’s had a fairly easy time since her last race, she’s training well.
“In an ideal world we’d find a fillies’ only Group Three, but there just aren’t any. So if we have to run in a Listed race under a penalty then so be it if that’s the best option.
“Obviously she also has the option of running in the Sun Chariot the week after, but we’ll make that decision on Wednesday morning before declarations.”
Hilton feels Secret Of Life did not have things go her way on her most recent outing at Sandown, where an unfavourable draw meant tactics had to be altered on her first start after a break.
He added: “Things didn’t quite go to plan. We weren’t intending to make the running, but we had to jump forward as we were drawn wide and then the horse we thought would give us a lead then sat on our flank and pestered her – she probably was just a bit keen.
“She’d been off two months before Sandown, but there was no real reason for that. There just wasn’t a suitable race on suitable ground and it possibly just made her a bit free.
“She was only beaten a length at the end of the day, we didn’t lose a whole lot in defeat and her mark was put up, so it was viewed as a career best performance.
“We are owner-breeders and in an ideal world we’d be taking another step up back into Group Three company as we did at Sandown, but there’s just nothing there so it’s likely that we could run in the Listed race and see how we get on.”
