Estrange misses Nassau Stakes with big autumn in mind

David O’Meara has decided to swerve the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on Thursday with Estrange

Having landed the first Group One win of her career in the Pretty Polly in Ireland last time out, she was due to take on Aidan O’Brien’s classy Diamond Necklace.

However, with a huge autumn planned, when connections will be hoping she gets a bit more cut in the ground, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned Estrange will stay at her North Yorkshire base next week.

“I am going to give her a couple more weeks,” O’Meara told the Press Association.

“I think she could just do with a little more time since her last run given we have big targets in the autumn for her.

“There’s the Yorkshire Oaks, Prix Vermeille, Arc and Breeders’ Cup so there is plenty coming up for her. I’m going to give her a little more time.

“Obviously she travelled over and back to Ireland and it was very very hot at the time. She came out of the race grand, but there are big targets ahead so we are going to sit out this one.”

In her absence Diamond Necklace will be a red-hot favourite to remain unbeaten following her win in the Prix de Diane last time out. O’Brien has also left in Minnie Hauk but she has been declared to run in the King George at Ascot on Saturday.

Beautify, Composing and Moments Of Joy could also represent Ballydoyle, while Karl Burke’s Fallen Angel, John and Thady Gosden’s Friendly Soul, Charlie Johnston’s Venetian Lace and Andrew Balding’s See The Fire, placed in the last two renewals of the race, make up the nine confirmed.

The are 13 in the Markel Richmond Stakes, including Night In Vegas and Cut A Dash, with 11 possible for the Maison Perrier Gordon Stakes.

Among them are Derby fourth Bay Of Brilliance, Amadeus Mozart for Aidan O’Brien, Joseph O’Brien’s Royal Ascot winner Enceladus and Donnacha O’Brien’s Shaihaan.
