Beorma going in search of remarkable eight-timer at Stratford

Dan Skelton says there is no telling how high wonder mare Beorma can fly as she aims to add another win to a remarkable run of seven consecutive victories at Stratford on Tuesday evening.
Kicking off with a handicap chase win at the end of May off a mark of 81, the seven-year-old has alternated between fences and hurdles to rack up a magnificent seven and improve 33lb in the process.
But with the George and Dragon Handicap Chase in her crosshairs and two further entries for a chase and a hurdle at Newton Abbot on Thursday, the Skelton runner could even take her winning run to nine by the weekend.
“I genuinely don’t know whether she has finished improving. She has taken me by surprise,” said Skelton. “We got her on some better ground and she has just taken off which did take me by surprise if I’m honest with you.
“I thought we might be able to win a race or two, but I never thought we would be on for a sequence. But yes, she is remarkable. She has gone up 33lb which is amazing.
“We will take it one race at a time. She looks like she’s got a fair chance (at Stratford) and if we get through that we can think again.”
Beorma had shown little in three starts in Ireland for Thomas Gallagher and five inauspicious runs for Skelton from last November to March.
But presented with a firmer surface at Worcester at the back end of May she ran out an easy six lengths winner of a handicap chase after which Skelton sold the mare to new owner Jack McIver.
Six runs later – three hurdles and three chases – she is now rated 114 and with £27,000 in prize-money banked the mare has more than repaid the faith.
That champion trainer added: “I thought she would do OK and off she’s gone. She is hopefully giving him plenty of pleasure which I know she has. What a mare!”
Beorma still has some way to go to beat the National Hunt record for consecutive wins which is held by Altior who racked up a remarkable 19 wins on the spin for Nicky Henderson.
